1940 Basketball is televised for the first time ever between Fordham University and the University of Pittsburgh in Madison Square Garden, New York.

1954 Colour TV sets approved by the National TV System Committee are sold to the general public for the first time.

1984 Michael Jackson won a magnificent 8 Grammys in one night due to the album ‘Thriller’.

1996 The Grammys again, but this time it would be the band Kiss (with the original members) that would be making the headlines. They appeared for the first time ever in their full make up and costumes.

Today is also ‘Rare Disease’ Day, run by the European Organization for Rare Diseases, to raise awareness about diseases that is not often publicised.
